Tributes to Diana
The tenth anniversary function of the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales, wife of Prince Charles was held on the last day of August, 2007 in the Guard’s Chapel in London at 12 noon local time.
Prince William and Harry, the two sons of Diana received more than thirty members of the Royal family, their father, the Queen and her husband.
The whole function was broadcast in CNN live, and I happened to see it all.
The persons who attended the congregation included Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his predecessors Tony Blair and John Major accompanied by their wives.
The women were in their flamboyant dresses with funny looking (for me) fancy hats, whereas the men were in suit without wearing hat!
All of them looked elegant and sat in order of protocol.
The Guard’s Chapel near Buckingham Palace was decorated beautifully with the Union Jack (British Flag) and roses of various colours and hues.
The fans of Diana were kept outside the Chapel.
Songs were sung in a chorus and music was played by the Orchestra from Royal Academy of Music.
The musicians of orchestra were boys, girls, men and women wearing red and white dress.
They had a wonderful voice to compete with the musical instruments played.
Everyone present in the chapel participated in singing which I could not decipher, but I could appreciate the feelings of those low and high pitch songs which echoed the high ceiling Chapel.
Everyone present inside and outside the Chapel and millions of Diana’s fan all over the world including me, might have felt the same sadness even after ten long years after the tragic death of Diana under the Alma Bridge, at Paris.
The songs and music were intercepted by the readings by Princes William, Harry and Lady Sara, the sister of Diana.
Prince Harry’s poignant tribute to his mother was moving and touched everybody’s heart.
He said that his mother’s death changed his and his brother’s life for ever.
“When she was alive we completely took for granted her unrivalled love of life, laughter, fun and folly” Prince Harry added.
He called Diana "our guardian, friend and protector"
"She made us and so many other people happy."
One cannot forget the sorrow behind those words uttered by the motherless Prince Harry.
Death comes in many forms, but Diana’s death was marred by controversies, failure in family life and scar in the Royal family.
Diana was young, dynamic and daring.
A mother of two sons, suffered a lot mentally but physically she is remembered for public work.
She was the ambassador for anti-land mine campaigns.
Diana actively supported AID’s charities.
She loved those who had a feeling of being unwanted and helped the vulnerable people – black, white or brown – of society.
She had a great heart of helping others and making others happy as Prince Harry put it.
I see these good qualities of Diana impressed her sons as well as her fans all over the world.
In a Western society, women have freedom of speech and action to take their decisions boldly and legitimately.
All those controversies clouded the life of Diana, were appearing as serious and stupid for me and may be for you too.
But in a Royal family such ugly relationships taking place is rare.
The Queen Elizabeth II would have felt sad about the happenings, but in vain.
High society controversies are always a sweet thing for media.
One thing is certain.
‘To err is human.”
That was it happened to the tall lady Diana, the Princess of Wales.
Ten years ago, Princess Diana died, aged 36, along with her companion Dodi Al Fayed, 42, and chauffeur Henri Paul, when the Mercedes they were in crashed in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel on 31 August 1997.
The whole world was shocked to hear and see the deadly car crash.
I felt that it was a film story where the lovers meet with a tragic death.
Same thing happened in Diana’s life too in that unforgettable date.
No one from al – Fayed family was invited for the function except one of the daughters of Mohammed al – Fayed to represent the family.
However, a two-minute silence at his store Harrods, UK was observed.
Everyone involved in Diana’s personal life forgot the bad of the whole thing, because she is no more – no more for the past ten years.
Diana’s admirers in Paris went to the Alma Bridge and paid their tribute by keeping bouquets, candles, coins, pictures of Diana on the 10th anniversary.
The whole ceremony at the Guard’s Chapel went on for just more than half an hour peacefully without the presence of The Duchess of Cornwall, the second wife of Prince Charles.
It was a very decent way of remembering Diana by all those who were associated with her.
Let us join the Bishop of London in saying, it was now time to "let Diana rest in peace".
